ABOUT ECOTARGET ICEBLASTERS™

Ecotargets Iceblasters™ offer shooting enthusiasts an environmentally safe alternative to traditional clay targets. Most clay targets contain petroleum derivatives. Their toxic residue remains in the environment for years. Non-toxic Ecotargets Iceblasters™ are 100% biodegradable. They fly and break like clay targets, yet simply melt away in minutes, leaving no toxic mess.

Ecotargets Iceblasters™ are made of water, food products and vegetable-based colorants. Simply mix measured amounts of Ecotargets Iceblasters™ dry powder and water and pour the mixture into reusable plastic molds, then place the molds in a freezer. In several hours, frozen Ecotargets Iceblasters ™ are ready to shoot! Store them in a freezer and transport them to your shooting range in a cooler. They are usable even in the hottest weather, yet melt in minutes once they are thrown or broken.

Ecotargets Iceblasters™ flying targets may be thrown anywhere it is safe to shoot with no harm to the environment and no mess to clean up afterward. Using non-toxic shot, they may even be thrown over lakes or wetlands.

Ecotargets Iceblasters™ are available in four basic kits: Trap, Sporting Clays, Rifle Range and Cowboy. Each kit contains reusable plastic molds, enough powder to make 100 targets and instructions. Ecotargets Iceblasters™ powder is available in red, blue, yellow, green, blaze orange, gray, blue/green, brown and white. Powder and molds are also sold separately.

Ecotargets Iceblasters™ targets for trap and sporting clays can be thrown from any hand trap or hand-loaded mechanical trap. A trap adaptor traction kit is included with Trap and Sporting Clays kits and is available separately. Available flying target molds include standard, midi, mini and jackrabbit.

Ecotargets Iceblasters™ Rifle and cowboy targets may be hung or set up in front of a safe backstop for plinking, target practice or competition. Rifle Range kits include rabbit, squirrel, duck, hanging star and hanging plate molds and weighted strings. Cowboy kits include a six-pack of beer bottle molds and a four-pack of antique insulator molds.

ECOTARGET STORY

Ecotargets was started in 2002.

Joseph M Schroeder the president and inventor of Ice blasters was cleaning up an unsupervised open to the public gun range and realized the need for a biodegradable target that would blow up.

Lets face it guys like to blow stuff up!

He then started to make ICE beer bottles then came the rest of the rifle range targets rabbits, squirrels, hanging stars and hanging plates. Then in early 2003 the flying target quest began.

Most of the clay targets sold in the United States today are made with 1/3 petroleum pitch. Petroleum pitch contains polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH's) PAHs are a large chemical family that have members linked to certain cancers.

There were many problems to overcome the expansion of water when it freezes was overcome by adding food products. The need for color was done with vegetable based colorants. But the birds would still not fly! Then traction strips were added to the trap to give the birds the necessary spin to make them fly stable and true.

The next year was spent on prototype testing to get the formula just right. And finely success! A flying target that would biodegrade almost instantly  that contained no PAH's

These targets can be used over grazing areas

No ugly mess

Targets are gone quickly because the are made of Ice!

100% biodegradable!

EcoTarget Tips

Ecotargets Instructions: Target Trays

  • Choose color of Ice blaster colorant. Mix I tablespoon per quart of water
  • Fill tray until green areas and targets are full, but not the red areas.
    • One standard tray uses one quart of water with mix.
  • Place trays in freezer and let freeze approximately 4 hours
    • Depending on freezer type and load.
  • Trays should be level and the red areas can be used as a built in level.
  • At this point weighted hanger strings can be added to make hanging targets.
  • Weighted hanger strings come with the rifle range and cowboy kits.
  • Weighted hanger strings are also available separately

Instructions Ecotargets: Rifle range kit

  • To make targets for the rifle range:
  • Choose the Ice blaster colorant you would like to use.
  • Choose the mold you would like to use.
  • Open packet and add to 2 quarts of water.
  • Stir toughly and pour into the mold of your choice, fill to 1/4 inch from top of mold.
  • At this point weighted strings that are provided with the kit can be added.
  • Place in freezer and let freeze about 4 hours depending on freezer.
  • It is Ok to not use the whole packet of colorant and estimate the amount of
  • Color and water needed when making rifle range targets.
  • The mix ratio is not as critical with the rifle range targets as with the trap
  • Targets. Trap targets will not freeze, fly or break correctly if the mix is not precise.

Instructions Ecotargets: Cowboy Kit

  • To make targets for the rifle range:
  • Choose the Ice blaster colorant you would like to use.
  • Choose the mold you would like to use.
  • Open packet and add to 2 quarts of water.
  • Stir toughly and pour into the mold of your choice, fill to 1/4 inch from top of mold.

Tip:  for flying targets

Bird thickness = How hard the bird breaks

  • If you fill the molds till the green tracks are full, they work for close up shooting; as when standing close to the trap.
  • If you are shooting at a distance from the targets and you find they are breaking too hard, make the next set a little thinner ( don't fill the molds as full).
  • This technique allows you to make the birds break as easy - or as hard - as you like.
